Research

Below we have researched various video games, movies and comics that include a similar type of weapon caused by the evolution of man through a virus or 'Parasite'.
Our idea is to come up with an idea for a humanized weapon.

Prototype

Prototype is the number one game that comes to mind when you think of a human weapon. Alex is able to transform his body into anything he wants.

The Darkness

The Darkness is another good example for a game, even though the main character Jacky isn't actually the weapon, he wields the power of the Darkness.

Whatever this is

Soul Calibur

Soul Edge, the sword wielded by Nightmare in the Soul Calibur series of games. The spirit of this blade enters the mind of whoever wields it like a parasite, makes the wielder insane, and devours souls. The blade can also change its form depending on who currently wields it.

Mahakala, a wrathful deity found in Buddhist lore. He is a protector of dharma and a fierce emanation of the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara. He is believed to be the Buddhist equivalent of the Hindu deity Shiva. Mahakala has been some inspiration in terms of weapon aesthetic and for an early parasite design.

Maken, from Maken X and Maken Shao: Demon Sword. In the games, Maken is an artificial demon who serves as the protagonist of the game and can possess a person in order to take control of the person's body. The person's weapon changes when Maken enters the targets body. You will often have to possess a person in order to advance the plot, acquire a stronger body, or get post certain points in the game.

Shin Megami Tensei and spin-offs

Varuna, from Digital Devil Saga. In this game, Varuna is the demonic form (referred to in the game as an Atma Avatar) of the main character, who is named Serph. The name Varuna actually comes from an Indian deity of water who originated from early Vedic Hinduism. The game itself has you devouring enemies in order to earn Atma Points, which can invested into Mantras to gain new skills. The Atma Avatar is a demonic form generated by a mystical virus known simply as Atma. People affected by Atma can assume a demonic form and quickly learn how to go in and out of this demonic form. But it comes with a price, as Atma Avatars are driven to devour each other. If this hunger is resisted, the affected person becomes weak, and if one goes too long without devouring another then one goes berserk and stays in Atma Avatar form with an uncontrollable bloodlust.

Chiaki's demonic transformation from Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne. She gains this form by calling upon the remaining spiritual power of Gozu-Tennoh, who was the leader of a group called Mantra until its collapse.

A Magatama from Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne. In the beginning of the game, the protagonist ingests a Magatama, which grants him access to demonic powers and changes his form slightly to reflect his new-found power. Magatamas can also impart difference resistances and weakness as well as affect the player's statistic properties. The protagonist ingests several Magatama in order to learn new skills from them. When a Magatama is maxed out, the player can gain a new title depending on the nature of the Magatama that is maxed out and how many Magatama the player has mastered.

A God Arc, from the God Eater games. In the games, you fight monsters called Aragami with this weapon, as it is apparently made of the same substance as them (which the series refers to as Oracle Cells). The weapon itself is actually an Aragami, and thus has the urge to devour. They can be used as blades, guns, and they have the power to devour Aragami.

This mask represents an Oni, a Japanese kind of demon or ogre believed to terrorize humans. The particular demon represented by this mask is called Hannya, a jealous female demon. Hannya is also considered to be a serpent.

Shiva as she appears in Final Fantasy X. Not to be confused with the Hindu deity of the same name. In this game her hair has these metallic objects that look like chakrams at the ends of the braids of her hair. They seem to be the main inspiration for the concept of  hair blades that have been drawn earlier, though not circular.

A Japanese depiction of the spirit known as Asura. They originated in Vedic lore from India, where the term Asura was an epithet that denoted power or might and was attributed to a number of deities, including Indra. They were later to considered to be deities of human and social affairs, such as marriage and law, in contrast to the devas being deities of nature. After the Vedic period, Hindu lore considered the Asuras to be evil, materialistic spirits. Buddhist lore considers the Asuras to be jealous demigods who are addicted to malign passions and strife. In Japan, they are considered powerful protectors of the Buddhist faith. In the Zoroastrian religion, the term Asura became Ahura and refers to spirits of light whose leader was the deity Ahura Mazda.

This is the blade wielded by the character Zhou Tai in Dynasty Warriors 6. He does not use this weapon in the rest of the series.

This is a Kila, also known as a Phurba. It is a ritual implement associated with the Tibetan Buddhist meditational deity Vajrakilaya, and is used to exorcise demons and transmute and destroy hatred. A similar weapon also appears in the movie The Golden Child, where it is called the Ajanti Dagger. Both weapons were the inspiration for some weapon designs.

The left image is a Japanese depiction of demons referred to as Rasetsu, the right image is an Indian artwork depicting demons referred to as Rakshasa. The term Rasetsu is the Japanese term for an Indian demon known as Rakshasa. In India, Rakshasas are demons that attack humans and battle the gods. They are notorious in Hindu mythology for desecrating graves, possessing humans, disturbing sacrifices to the gods, and feeding on human flesh as well as spoiled food. They are said to have been born from the foot of the creator deity Brahma and are variously described as cannibals, sorcerers, shape-shifters, and illusionists. Their king is said to be Ravana, who ruled over Lanka and was the enemy of Vishnu's seventh incarnation, Rama. In Shingon Buddhism, there is an esoteric deity named Rasetsuten, who is the lord of demons and guardian of the southwest direction. The terms Rasetsu or Rakshasa were used a name for a parasite which infects the person and grants them the symbiotic weapon.

This is Lightning's GunBlade from Final Fantasy XIII, It is a sword without a sheath because the blade itself folds into its self and transforms.

This Scythe is called Cresent Rose, It is the signature weapon of Ruby Rose from Rooster Teeths Web Series - RWBY, The weapon acts similar to Lighting's GunBlade by folding into itself as a sheath and It also doubles as a rifle as well as a Scythe.

This is a design I found when looking for inspiration for our idea of a way to make our 'parasite' idea work more, I liked this design because it works and its logical to the design aspect.

This is a concept of a weapon from the game Warframe that I found on DeviantArt, I liked the design and it similar to the ideas we need to be coming up with for our project.

Dark Sector

Unlike Prototype, Dark Sector's virus only effects one of Hayden's arms. His right arm is infected by the Technocyte virus allowing him to control a glave which is able to conduct different elements for him to use to his own advantage.

Deus Ex

Deus Ex is a game series which is based in the future and draws in popular real world conspiracy theory's. The game is based around an augmented human that is used as a weapon, for the U.S Government.

Demon

Devil May Cry

The top image is Dante's Majin Form from Devil May Cry 2. It is a kind of Devil Trigger activated when Dante is low on health. The middle image is the Nero's Devil Bringer from Devil May Cry 4, a demonic arm . The bottom image is Dante wielding the Gilgamesh weapon from Devil May Cry 4.

This is Vajrakilaya, a Tibetan Buddhist meditational deity. He is said to be the most powerful for removing obstacles and destroys forces hostile to compassion. Vajrakilaya was the inspiration for weapon design, which soon evolved into another.

This is the Kirtimukha, the devouring monster icon from the Hindu faith. He appears in many temples, usually on doorways, and on the aureoles of statues of deities. According to myth, there was an asura who believed himself to be the strongest being in the universe and so demanded to have Parvati, the wife of the great god Shiva. Affronted by this, Shiva summoned an even more powerful demon, a reflection of the asura's own hunger that sought to devour him and anything in its path. The asura pleaded to Shiva for forgiveness and protection, and as a god he was obliged to grant such protection, but the other demon now had nothing to eat. So Shiva suggested the demon devour its own body, and the demon, obliged to follow his will, did so. Shiva was struck by the brilliance of the demon's act as an illumination of the nature of life itself, and so named the demon Kirtimukha, meaning "Face of Glory". Kirtimukha was the inspiration for a sword design.

This is a Ramdao, a sacrificial weapon from India and Nepal. As a sacrificial blade, it is a religious tool and is not normally used for combat. It was used in animal sacrifices, some would say even human sacrifices. It is a heavy single-heade blade, and as you can see, it has an eye on the blade, much like some of our drawings of parasitic weapons. The Ramdao is also shown in figures and painting of deities, especially those of the goddesses Kali and Durga. The Ramdao was an inspiration for a weapon design.

Sand Man

Sandman, a shape-shifting character from the Spiderman series of comics and the third Spiderman film.

Werewolf

Werewolves are great example of shape-shafting humanized creatures, even though the typical werewolf isn't able to control when it transforms, there are other ways this creature is portrayed, like in 'The Elder Scrolls' game where your character is able to transform into a werewolf once per day for a limited time, unless you feed which increases the time you are in 'Beast form'.

Resident Evil

In the Resident Evil game series, there is an outbreak of the T-virus which infected people become zombified, The virus has different effects on some people and transforming them completely, such as Albert Wesker from the first Resident Evil and then explored more as you play the rest of the series, Wesker gained superhuman powers from an experimental variant of the progenitor virus. In Resident Evil 5, Wesker infects himself with the virus which then transforms himself into the picture above.

This is a Guan Dao, also called a Kwan Dao or Yanyuedao (its proper name). It is a Chinese pole weapon, comparable to the European glaive (not the throwing weapon of the same name from fantasy fiction). Famously associated with the general Guan Yu, who was said to have invented the weapon during the 3rd century AD. This weapon was an inspiration for some blade shapes.
